My grandfather, Matthew Flanagan of Drakerath, remembered seeing a house owned by Thomas Mc Cabe of Straholmog which had no chimney and the fire was placed on the centre of the floor. The chimneys were made of stone plastered together with clay, but time wore away those chimneys.
   In olden times the windows were fitted with two pieces of boards which could slide up and down. The floors of long ago were made from flag-stones and sometimes clay. The fireplace was fixed in the middle of the floor and
