tea was first used. They used to drink milk but when they had none they used to drink "flummery". It was a drink made from seeds got in the mill and oatenmeal. It used to be steeped in cold water until it would ferment. The seeds were strained out and then it was ready for use. They used to drink out of "noggins" a wooden mug with one handle and a hoop round the centre of it.
