  1. Once upon a time there lived a man at the shore of Lough Sheelin. He used to grow a very large crop of oats and every morning the oats used to be trampled down. One night he said that he would stay up and see what was trampling it. So he saw two beautiful horses walking through it and he put them in a house and in the morning there were two women in the shed with the horses. One had black hair and the other red hair. He asked the one with the red hair to marry him. So she agreed but she told him never to tell any news in a hurry to her. All went well for six or seven years. One day he was wearing flax when the hurdle went on fire. He rushed in calling '' Mary his wife. Mary walked out and said she had to go. She ran down to the lake and in to the water. So he never saw her again
