while John ran out of the hut. Then the step-mother began to fight Mary. She told her never to go back to the hut again.
The girl and the boy wandered through the wood. It was not long till they met a witch. The witch caught them and brought them to her hut. She put John in a cage and made Mary get ready. When the fire was lit the witch began to warm herself.
When the girl got the witch near the fire she shoved her in to it. She let John out of the cage. In the meantime their father had come home. The step-mother told him what she had done. He went out to look for them.
