He was the first person who taught in this school and he was suceeded by Paddy Byrne who was mentioned in Goldsmiths 'Deserted Village'.There was a school in Mucknagh in the year eighteen fifty. It was held in a barn owned by Mr. Hefferman. A man named Patrick Coffey taught in this school. He stopped a month in every townsland. While he was teaching he lodged in a farmers house near the school.There were about ten children attending this school. They brought two pence per week to the teacher. School started at ten oclock and was over at half past two. The subjects they learned were English reading and writing and Arithmetic. The children wrote on slates with slate pencils. The children were all in the same class. They sat on the floor.There was a school between John Fitzpatrick's and Barney Gills crossroads. This was about the year 1804. It was night school that was taught in it and the pupils had to learn their lessons from the light(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
