- There were many outdoor games played in this district long ago. Weight throwing and jumping were most common. A weight of fifty six lbs was usually thrown. Some grass was dug away so that the weight would stick in the ground and not roll away any further than it was thrown.There was great interest taken in jumping. Jack Fox from Ballinacliffy was a champion jumper. One time he did some harm he was running from Athlone persuded by police and when he came to the railway gates they were closed. He jumped the two gates one after the other in order to escape. He is dead at the present day. Hurling and football were also faviourate games played long-ago. About thirty-three years ago there was a football team in Kilkenny West. This team played against Kinnegad and the name of the this team was The Holy Terrors. There were fifteen men each side.
