- About a mile and a half from Athlone there is a hill just beside Clonbrusk on which is a large flat stone called a Druid's altar. It is reputed to have been used by the Druids of this district to offer sacrifices to their idols. It was used during the Penal days for the celebration of Mass and a small red stain on it is supposed to be a drop of blood of a priest who was killed while celebrating Mass there.

- In a place called Ballykeeran three or four miles outside Athlone there is a large stone with a black oval mark on it. It is stated that when St. Patrick was passing through that district the people became hostile towards him and hunted him. In his haste he dashed his knee on the rock and the mark remained.
