- Clothes Made Locally
There are about fifteen tailors in this district.
Some tailors travel around and get orders for suits. They come back then and make the clothes at home and then send them to the people. Most of the tailors stock cloth.
The cloth is spun and woven locally, as there are both a cotton and woolen factory in the town. People wear the clothes made locally.
The types of cloths are tweed and serge.
These are the implements that the tailors use: sewing machine, tape measure, sewing needle, thread, chalk, scissors, iron, thimble, and a cloth stand.
Shirts are made in some houses. They are made out of flourbags and cotton.
Socks and stockings are knitted locally but the wool is seldom spun at home.
There are a few spinning wheels around Athlone, Miss Nash, Glynwood, Athlone has one and she spins the wool and cloth at home.
