    They came from the North of Ireland to make clogs There was a man named Rollans who lived in Ledwithstown House and he used to sell all the timber to make all the clogs. They are worn locally. Leather used to be made in the district. In Ballymahon where Hugh flood is living now a man named Doudle Dowdal lived (there) long ago who used to make the leather.
    Leather used to be made out of sheepskin cowskin, horseskin, and sometimes out of goatskin. There was no untanned leather in the district. They used put tryes of a motor car on the soles of them so that the clogs wouldn't make much noise. The old people say the children have boots in the cradle now and none when they are able
