- In years past the country folk used wear footwear known as logs. They were made up of leather tops and wooden soles, and they were considered very bad for the eye sight as the feet were always burning hot and when changing into ordinary footwear on Sundays they usually contracted a cold in the head and this also was contributary cause of the eyes failing. Many old people used bathe their feet in bog water to cure corns and others made a lotion for the feet by adding a tablespoon of oaten meal to tepid water.
