Ar an leathanach seo
- We have two churns at home, one is a "Punch churn" and the other a "Dash Churn".
The Punch Churn is about 3ft high, and is twenty inches wide at the top and twenty three or twenty four inches wide at the bottom.
The sides are round. From the top it gradually gets narrow down for about six inches and then gets wide again.
The top part is called the "peck".
The outside is painted dark green and there are six black hoops on it.
The lid is round and flat with a hole in the centre for the handle of the dash to go through.
There are no marks on the side or bottom. It is only two years old.
The other churn is about twenty inches high and over 1 ft wide both at the top and bottom.
The sides are straight there are no marks on it either.
It is very old it is about twenty years old.
The butter is made in it once or twice a week.
It is generally the women and children who churn.
Strangers help if they come in during churning. It is said they help because then they cannot(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
