Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)fair in Mohill. A boy and a girl would meet in the fair, and would stay at a neighbour's that night, and the next morning they would be married. It was called a runaway marriage, and was customary about fifty years ago.
The groom used to reach the church before the bride, and wait for her. When they were coming out after been married, an old boot was thrown at the bride and a tongs at the grooms. Rice was thrown on both of them, and the boot was (thrown) tied on the vehicle they went home in. These were for good luck.
The wedding feast was held in the bride's house. Strawboys were called band-beggars, because they used to visit the bride's house the night of the feast, also because they wore sheaves of straw tied around them. They were let in, if they were nice, but if they were rough they were not. When they were in, they received(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
