   There are travelling folk called Gipsies or Tinkers who come to my house, they have been doing so for many years. They are usually very poor, and they often ask for bacon, flour, bread, or an egg.

   Sometimes they have things to sell such as, "Mirrors, boot-laces, combs, and brooches. Some of the tinkers buy tin and make cans.

   There is usually something bought from them. They are generally never very welcome. They remain two or three nights in the one place at a time. These people sleep along the roadside in caravans or in tents. Some of them travel in the caravans or in a cart, and some of the poorer ones go on foot. Some families go about by themselves, and sometimes, a couple of them go together. O Leary is the best known name among them. This family usually visits the district. They come about two or three times a month.
