- There was a boat capsized at Tarmonbarry on the river Shannon a few years ago. The boat was broken against the Weir Wall. There were two sisters drowned and a man. There were some others saved. A local young man dived in and saved a girl. The people in the boat were warned not to go near the gates but they proceeded.
There were two houses burned in this district. One was a farmer's house. It was burned about 25 years ago. The occupants of the house escaped injuries, but there were pigs and fowl very badly burned. They had to be destroyed. They other was a shop, it happened a few years ago. There was only just a shopboy in the shop. The owner of the shop had a wooden leg and he got out the window.
