- Hidden Treasure
According to tradition there is money and church valuables buried in one of the seven castles of Clonmines. This castle is locally known as the Cowboys' Castle.
My father was speaking to a man who is now a great many years dead and he told him that when he was a very young man himself and two other men searched for this hidden treasure. He told him that there was a man by the name of O'Brien in America dreamt where the treasure was buried and he wrote and told them to start digging twenty yards in a straight line from the castle door, and to dig eight feet deep and they would find a shore and to follow it untill they came to the end and would find the treasure on the left.
The three men did as O'Brien had told them. When they had made the hole eight feet deep they found the shore they worked [at] night [from] eleven o'clock until(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
