- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)disgraceful career.But for many years afterwards in the dark hours before dawn a dark figure of a man was seen standing at the Cross-roads where he was buried. This was believed to be the ghost of the Priest hunter and people would on no account pass there, until Paddy Whitty - poor fearless, rollicking Paddy coming home after midnight from a wake on approaching Leaches cross beheld the dreadful figure standing right before him. Paddy was at this terrified but having been well primed with poteen summoned his courage and determined to see in reality what it was. He therefore went on as when passing the figure said quite loud, "Good night."
There was no reply. He proceeded a little further on, when he said to himself, "Let you be a man or devil I'll make you speak, or know the reason why." He accordingly retraced his steps to where the figure was still standing and repeated "Good night," but there was no answer, "Damn you, why wont you speak, said Paddy directing a well - aimed blow at the silent figure. His arm pressed through it up to the shoulder it was only a shadow. Paddy fell sensless on the road and was found there next morning in an unconscious state.
