   forced them far back from land
   Oh, God have mercy! loud they cried, for the rash deed we have done.
   Forgive us, for the precious sake for thy once dying Son.
   Oh, Grant us mercy for this night, and pardon for the past,
   They wailed in mortal agony, while they were sinking fast.

   Of those two hundred fishermen who ventured out to sea,
   Not even one was spared to tell their tale of misery,
   They perished in the tempest wild and long before the dawn
   A tidal wave had swept away their little white Ringbawn.
   And like a howling demon the storm burst through the town,
   Just as withered leaves in Autumn, it brought the houses down.
   Next day in Ballyhealy that so prosperous had been
   Nought but utter woe and wreckage could anywhere be seen
