- 168"Old Story"One night in the year 1888 a boy named John Gainford, was coming home from Ballybranus mill in Enniscorthy with a with a sack of wheaten meal when he came to the battlements of the bridge, the donkey fell, this boy was only sixteen years of age and was unable to get the donkey up.
He saw a man standing against the bridge. He asked the man for help but but got no reply, He asked him a second time but got no reply, he asked him a third time for God's Sake. On the moment he was knocked down and as he lay there he turned jet black.
He was brought home, he never spoke for three months and at the end of that time he died and this is as true as I am smoking this old clay pipe(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
