One night a group of men we telling stories around a fire in the townland of Tottenhamgreen about three miles from the village of Taghmon. A stranger entered and asked to be allowed to listen to the stories. His request was agreed to and the old people started telling stories of the famine. One of the younger men saw that the stranger had a cloven hoof. The stranger dissappeared through the roof leaving a hole in it. The hole was mended, but the next night it was the same. They got every mason in the country but the came there each night. They hired a mason named Tom Cannon to do the job. He wet the cement with holy water and put it on the roof.
