- Old forts are common throughout this district. One of those is situated in Blackwater overlooking the village. It is called the "Moat" and it is conical in shape with an earthen fence surrounding it. There is a big tree on its slope. I was told that under this tree the Danes were supposed to keep their gold. Many people say the Danes built this fort. The "Moat" is situated overlooking a lane called the "Moat lane". While passing this lane many people heard music. A man from Blackwater district is said to have made an effort of ploughing it but failed. When he had ploughed a couple of sods hens and chickens(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
