- The animals we keep are cows, horses, goats, pigs and calves. The cows' names are "the Piggot cow" and the "young heifer. When calling the cows we say "chew home" and when driving the cows we say "whay on"The cow house is a big house. The cows are tied by bails or bames, that is one long thick board standing firm in the ground and another beside that in the ground but it can move backwards. The cows head goes in between those two bails. Then the moving one is pushed up to her and tied to the one standing with a bit of iron which is on the bail that cannot move. If the cow kicks when she is being milked she is tied with a rope about the two back legs. This is called spanceling.
