    The following is an account of severe weather in this district.

    hung out in the yard and every morning when he got up the first thing he did was to look at the thermometer and saw the temperature that it showed.
    He then wrote down the date and the temperature in a book in which he kept a record of the temperature and according to his thermometer the lowest it ever got to during the "Great Snow" was twenty degrees below freezing point.
    The snow lay on the ground so deep that after a period it was very hard to distinguish the fields from the roads in the country and what was worse all funerals were held up for some time.
    But still, as the snow fell it froze and got very hard and many poor people died from the cold.
    Although the snow caused a great deal of hardship many people had great sport.
    About two and a half miles outside Enniscorthy there is a place called the Still where there is a large pond and this pond was frozen over
