    them, although at the time they were not as well equipped for war as the English.
    In Enniscorthy on Vinegar Hill there was a big battle fought. The Irish were beaten and driven out of town but some of them sought refugee in the houses. The Irish were so welcome that every door was opened to them and when they were making merry a spy gave the game away to the English. The English returned to the houses and butchered many of them. Local tradition says that the Slaney ran red with their blood.
