- Hay-twisters are very little used nowadays but they were very much used twenty or thirty years ago.
There were various ways of making them. One kind was made by getting a piece of alder and burning the pith out of it. A piece of wire about one foot long was then passed through the alder and it was rivetted at one end to keep it from coming out of the handle. There was a crook on the other end. The crook was then put into a piece of hay and one person twists the handle while another keeps the hay pulled out.
