Old Houses
The houses long ago were thatched with straw and sometimes with rushes.They had a bed n the kitchen called a settlebed. The walls of the houses were built of clay and wattles. The floors were generally made of clay. There are several old half doors in this district yet.Rush-lights were used at night. They were made by drying the rushes and rubbing grease on them.
