    The Courthouse was built about 1830, at a cost of £10,000, raised off the county, and opened about 1835-just 100 years ago, when the Assizes were transferred from Philipstown, which ceased to be the capital town.
    It is a stately edifice, built of Tullamore limestone. Many historic trials were heard in the courts. It was burnt down in 1922 and rebuilt in 1924-25,
