- Old people tell us that there is money hidden in Clonlyon castle. No one ever went to dig for it because they were afraid. It was said that a life was to be lost out of the family of the person who dared dig for this hidden treasure. When the Danes were going to be put out of Ireland they had possesions of all the castles. They asked a servant would he mind the money if he said he would he would be killed and buried over the money. Therefore anyone digging for the gold would first find the skeletons. John Egan Clonlyon
