- Old CraftsBasket MakingMr. Jack Conway who lives on the Birr road in the townland of Ballincur in the Parish of Kinnitty and in the Barony of Ballybritt makes baskets. First he puts eight hazel sticks down in the ground and ties them firmly together with a piece of twine. Next he weaves sally sticks in and out through the hazel ones till the basket is about a foot and a half high and then he makes the rim. For the rim he gets real strong hazel sticks and twists four of them together in and out until he has a firm ring the size of the basket and then he joins the rim to the basket with some wire until he has it firmly and securely attached to the basket. Next he makes the handles of plaited sally sticks and puts them in under the rim of the basket. To make the bottom he pulls the basket up out of the ground and inverts it. He takes the strongest sally sticks and interweaves them in and out.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
