- We have a nice churn at home It is about three feet wide, and four feet in height. It is a round churn. It is not an old churn. The butter is churned in it in the Summer and in the Winter. The butter is in it once every week.
When the small glass in the lid of the churn is clear the butter is churned. It takes about an hour to churn. It is turned around with the hand. Sometimes in fine weather hot water is put into the churn the way the butter wouldn't be soft.
The butter is washed twice or three times in the churn with clean water to take all the buttermilk out of it. Then the buttermilk is taken out, and kept for making bread.
The butter is taken out with a butter-spade and a small sieve. Then it is put into a buttertub, and it is washed there(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
