- When the sun rises red in the morning it is a sign of a bad day. When there is a ring around the moon at night rain is at hand. A rainbow in the morning is the sailor's warning, a rainbow in the night is the sailor's delight. The south wind brings the most rain. When the cat sits with her back to the fire it is an indication of snow. The crows fly furiously and very high in the dky when it is going to rain. The dog nibbles at the grass when rain is at hand. When the distant hills seem near it is an indication of rain. If the distant fog goes up the hill in the morning it denotes a fine day and when it comes down to the lowland it denotes rain. When rain is at hand the medges are very busy. When the smoke goes up straight in the sky it is a sign of fine weather.
