   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   There are a great many names near my home and I often wondered how these places got such strange names such as, the long field, the field beside the road.

   The Croppy got this name because there was a man killed and buried there during the rebellion of '98. The kiln field is so called because there is a lime kiln in it. The creckin got that name because it is so small. Larry's meadow is so called because a great many years ago a man by name of Larry Brian owned it.

   I often wonder why so many places around here get such strange names. Some of them get their name by their looks and sometimes by so many people of the same name having lived there such as Ballymartin because there were so many Martin's living there. Another name is Currane so called because
