    into the Garrison and from that into the Castle whic was uninhabited at the time. They brought their treasures, ornaments, crosses, books with them. It is said that from the vaults of the castle they built an underground tunnel under the Barrow across to Dinn Rí where they believed much of the old palace and its treasures lay buried beneath the present huge mount. It is said they succeeded and many of their treasures were transferred either over to Dinn Rí and unde the river. A fall of earth under the castle, due to dampness trapped some of the monks once and though the townspeople aided the rest of the community they were dead when found. The monks buried them in caskets in the tunnel near the treasures. This community died out and the treasures remained and no attempt was made to find (1) on account of danger of going under the river (2) because the ghosts of the dead monks would surely bring down the earth and river on the despoilers. It is said that Dr Powell the famous circus-man, who was a friend of Buffalo Bill Coady tried to find the entrance to the tunnel
