- Local Happenings,The Cholera.In the 18th Century this terrible epidemic came to Leighlin. It was caused by the want of good food. Death was caused by choking, and they turned black when dying. The men were free from disease carried them to a lane about two miles from Leighlin. Some of them were not dead, and they did not want to go there, but the men's answers were, "We have orders to put you down and down you must go".
