- Many years ago it was a custom for people to put a stone in a box for every mass they heard. When a year would be up, they would count the stones. Any Sunday they would miss Mass, they would put a large stone beside the box, so that no mistake would be made, at the counting of the stones.
There is a story told of a man who went to Mass in the old graveyard in Benekerry. It is said that when he died, the box of stones was buried in the grave with him.- Bailitheoir
