The people of Dunlavin used Indian meal instead of potatoes it was sent over from England by the British Government and the wealthy people who lived there paid for it with there own money, Dunlavin was fairly thickly populated in the year of the famine. It is very seldom that old people of this district talk about the great famine or tell stories concerning it
