left their belongings on the roadside. The greatest evictions ever known in this district were the Feddan evictions, as all the people in Feddan were put out of their houses on the same day.
There was a song made about the Feddan evictions. This is the first verse of it, which is all that could be remembered. The exact date is uncertain.
    "in the year 18 --
    When we to Mr Fenton
Our rents we went to pay.
We received from him a notice
To quite our house and home
    And enter as poor paupers
    Unto the work-house door."
Mr G Jackson of Crossnacole, heard the old people of the district singing this song.
Feddan is in the parish of Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow
