- Some local people are very good at judging the weather. They can tell by the sun, moon stars, behaviour of animals.
Here are a few signs Mr. Murphy gave me:
(1) A circle around the moon on a clear night; sign of a storm.
(2) wind from the north; sign of rain
There is a local saying;
A rainbow at morn is the sheperds warn
A rainbow at night is the sheperds delight
The eastwind brings most rain to our district. Signs of coming storms;
nearness of hills; sheen on rocks;
behaviour of sheep; mountain states
lighting in groups near a house sign of a storm; Crane flying high a sign of good weather
Demeanour of animals as storm omens.
Sheep playing around the fields in winter;
A cat sitting with her back to the fires dogs eating grass.- Collector
