- On our farm which is 50 acres in area we set about 2 acres of potatoes every year and we generally set them in March or April. The ground has to be ploughed and harrowed and got ready for them during the Winter months and the farm yard manure is drawn out in that season also and left in the field in which the potatoes are to be set, and they are nearly always set in a field in which there had been corn the year before. When suitable weather comes for putting them in the drills are opened with what we call a double mould board plough, or a drill plough as it is sometimes called. We use an iron plough to do the ploughing as it would take a long time to do it with a spade and it would be a very tiresome job to do and there are no wooden ploughs around here at all. All the other impliments we use are also made of iron.After the drills are opened the seeds are set and the manure spread and sometimes we sow artificial manure.
