In those terrible days there lived in Newtown two women named Alley Waters and Esther Loughlin who buried the bodies of the dead rebels and the yeos bad as they were neither harmed nor insulted them. Sometimes two protestants named Collins helped them to dig and cover the graves. They did so secretly and at the risk of their own lives. These brave men and women's names should not be forgotten. The great grandchildren of these women still live and work in Newtownmountkennedy.
