My father told me the following story. One time a man was going to labour the rath. When he had the first sod turned, he stuck a stick into the ground, to see what sort it was. Suddenly the stick came up out of the ground, with such force, that it hit the man on the head, and he died.

  2. A short distance from the village of Butlersbridge on the townland of Tullybuck on the top of a hill, there stands a fort known as Tullybuck fort. It is round and surrounded with white thorn bushes, growing on the ditches. It is known to be haunted by fairies. Mrs Emms told me the following story. A good many years ago, the farm on which it stands was bought by a man the name of McCarron, who lived in Cavan at the time. This man thinking it no harm ploughed up the fort. On that night a rather small woman, appeared at his door, when it was falling dark. The woman asked Mr Carren to leave the fort the way he got it, or it would be worse for him. He took no notice of what she said. In a short time afterwards, whatever happened him, he was not
