- In olden times schools were not so comfortable as at the present time. They were just simple mud wall cabins. There were a few old schools in this locality. The people paid 1/6 for 3 months and were taught reading, writing and arithmetic. Quill pens and slates were used. Sods and stones were used for seats. The master's name was Phill Sheridan.
Another school of the same kind was in Ballinagh. The master's name was Pepper. There was a school taught in an old chapel in Keshel, A master named Walsh taught in a shed in Loughnaconnick.- Bailitheoir
