- There is a famous holy well in Charter's field in the townland of Mullambly about a 1/4 of a mile from the main road leading from Cavan to Arvagh. This field is about two acres in area. A large furze bush is near this well. It is deep and circular, with a great rock over hanging it. Its waters are nice to taste.
A broken mug and a wooden cross hang near it. Many cures are said to have been done by this water. A piece of rag was put up on this bush for cures completed.
Its waters cure headaches, watrs, rheumatism, Sciatica, and other infirmities. The people say prayers and wash the effected spots with the water, and they sometimes drink a portion of the water. The people if they want to get cured must have faith.
Sick folk always leave something behind them. In order that the disease may leave them and remain with whatsoever thing they placed beside the well.
It is said to have been blessed by St Finian in the 6th century. Some women used it for domestic purposes.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
