- Stories re. taking of milk.
It is said if a person believes another to be "taking" his butter, he can put an end to it by stealing some article belonging to the suspect. This has been done often. But the scarcity of butter was not always due to "taking". A family names Sloane lived in the Townland of Drumcoghill and kept- 14 cows.
The husband and wife churned lime about, and each filled a "firkin" specially his or her own, both going on at same times.
The Mrs. was extravagant and fond of dress and drink, she found the money for this selling butter.
In order to have her firkin filled as quickly as her husband, in spite of above leakage she used to add some alum to his churning which caused a poor return of butter. Then he never could grumble when both seemed alike in time of filling.- Bailitheoir
