Mr Ballam's house which is one of the oldest I know is a public house. It is called the L house because it is in the shape of an L. When the stage coaches were passing Arva some years ago they used to stop there to get refreshments and to get fresh horses. There are many stables at it. The horses were cleaned and brushed there and then they went on to other towns.
Our house is an old house. At one time it was a court house. Another time a woman lived in it and she had a shop. Every night a crowd of fellows used to come into the shop to drink. One of them died and a few nights after that he was seen sitting on a box which he was used to sitting on.
He began to appear every night but none of the fellows would go near him. So one night one of them took up courage and went over to him. So the fellow started talking to him and(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
