- During the long winter evenings when the bright days of summer are over and we can't play outdoor games, we pass the time by making toys. We sit comfortably beside a well lighted table with a scissors, a needle and thread, and other things which we can use for making different kind of toys.
We make, what is known as, a rag doll. First we get a peice of cloth and sew up the two sides and fill it with saw-dust and tie a peice of string round the top of is. Then we mark out the eyes, nose, mouth and ears with a pen or pencil. We get smaller peices of cloth with which we can make arms and legs.
We also use rushes in making toys such as crosses, cat-cradles and whips. Out of paper we make belts, boats, kites and ships. We get sweet wrapping paper, and sometimes the silver paper which wraps cigaritts to make belts.
During Spring when the daises are in full bloom we make a daisy-chain.(continues on next page)- Collector
