- Long ago there was a boy called Jack in the bog. This boy was very fond of cardplaying and he was making a real living on it.
He used to say that he never met anyone who could beat him playing.
One night he was coming home across the bog and what did he see but a table and a man playing at it and a giant fire.
The man spoke to him and said, "Well Jack" will you sit down and have a game?"
Jack was so delighted with the cardplaying that he would play anyplace. So he sat down and bet that the other man would not beat him. He played on and was losing a head. He dropped a card on the ground and when he stooped down to lift it he saw the club foot of the man under the table and he was struck with fear.
He was going away but the man would not let him. He played on until he lost the last penny he had.
Then the table, fire and man disappeared and that was the last card that Jack in the bog played.
So this is a lesson to anyone who is fond of playing cards or staying out late.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
