- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)"But once more" said he "I shall give the wood to whichever of you is the laziest".
"I shall get the wood" said the eldest, "for I'm the laziest".
"How lazy are you?" said the king.
"I'm so lazy" said he "that if you left me lying at the cross-roads, the laziness would not allow me to stir until the cars and carts crossed over me and cut me into pieces."
"But you are not so lazy as I am" said the second.
"If you left me lying on my back in an old sooty house and the soot-drop came falling into my eye, I am so lazy that I would let the drop wear the eye out of my head before I'c lose my eye lid."
"But neither of you can be compared with me" said the youngest.
"I'm so lazy that if you left me leaning against a turf stack and then set the stack on fire, I wouldn't stir hand or foot until the fire would burn me into cinders".
"Well" said the king, "I am as bad as ever."
"For the third time, I've failed to say which of you should own the wood."
