The townland of Lismeen got its name from the "fort" on the top of the hill. "Lis" means a fort and "min" means a green flat mound on the top of a hill. The south-eastern portion of Lismeen is "Tully" meaning the side of a hill. Right beside "Tully" is "Carricka-puca" rock or the rock of the fairies or goblans. Also in the townland of Lismeen there is a field called the "Alt" + there is also a field called "Maol duil hill" or "the black bare hill"
Aughaloughan, the townland between Lattoon and Lismeen took its name from the nature of the land, large stones being strewn all over the greater part of the townland meaning literally the townland of the stones. This townland is the highest place of the district being over 750 feet above sea level.
In the townland of Lattoon there is a "mass rock" in a cottage plot belonging to James Smyth. It has a great resemblance to the alter of the present day. There are three steps cut in a huge stone leading to the alter. There was an old graveyard quite adjacent to this mass rock in a meadow
