  2. Forts
    Lurganaveele Forts
There is a fort situated in the townland of Lurganaveele. It is along the public road. It is of a round shape.
It is enclosed by a fence of earth and bushes. It is in Mr Cooney's field. There is only one mound of earth around it. There grows green grass in the centre of it. If a person was standing in the centre, he could see Carngrave fort.
The Danes were said to have built them. They built them in time of war to be safe from their enemies. In case of an attack they would light a fire in them to warn the people in the surrounding district.
