The owner of the field gave one ewt of turnips for one shilling. They would carry home the turnip on their backs. They used to boil the turnips and put Indian meal on them and with that made bread. When the blight came on the potatoes they people went to Ballytrain, Co Monaghan and got blessed water and shook it on the potato stalks
